A Free Trading Game That Actually Teaches Chart Reading
Most things called a trading game are either a stock-picking leaderboard or a demo account with a scoreboard bolted on. Neither teaches you to read a chart, because neither ever tells you whether your read was right. This one does, one read at a time.
Chart Bound is a free browser trading game that teaches chart reading through 71 levels across nine regions. Each level is one read: mark the level price respected, call the next candle, spot the sweep, or read the tape forward. It runs in the browser with no download and no signup.
What makes this different from a demo account
A demo account gives you a live market and no feedback. You place a trade, you wait, and days later you have a number that does not tell you which part of your thinking was wrong. A game can do the thing a demo cannot: put one decision in front of you, score it immediately, and then do it again.
That is the whole design. Every creature in Chart Bound is one chart read. Get the read right and you catch it. Get it wrong and you see why straight away, which is the part that actually changes how you look at the next chart.

The curriculum is not decoration. It runs in nine regions, roughly in the order a trader needs them:
- The first region is the basics that everything else sits on: reading a single candlestick, order blocks and support and resistance, volatility, momentum and trend, and mean reversion. The boss of that region is emotional discipline, because that is what undoes beginners first.
- The second moves to liquidity: imbalance at scale, liquidity structure, fair value gaps, stop hunts, and trading the reversal after a sweep.
- The third is entirely psychology: loss aversion, overtrading, FOMO, trading around high impact news, and overconfidence after a good run. Its boss is drawdown and capital survival.
- Then it gets quantitative: the macro backdrop, out-of-sample testing, rate differentials, backtesting, and the difference between a win rate and an expectancy.
- The last regions go where most free material never does: volatility regime and sizing, dealer gamma, options flow as a risk gauge, seasonality, the yield curve, the carry trade, fat tails, and gap risk.
The four things you are actually asked to do
- Read the tape. The chart plays forward a bar at a time and you call the next move.
- Mark the level. You draw where you think price will react, and the game scores how close you were to the level it actually respected.
- Sort the candles. Patterns shown without their labels, so you learn the shape rather than the name.
- Call the news. A release lands and you decide what it does to the chart in front of you.
Is it free, and what is the catch
It is free and it needs no signup to start. You can save your progress with an email if you want to come back to it, and there is a paid desk for people who go on to want a full charting terminal, but nothing in the game is behind that. The reason it exists is that we would rather teach somebody to read a chart than sell them a course about it.
