Currency Converter for Traders (Live Indicative Rates)

Ten currencies plus gold and silver, converted at live indicative mid prices with the time they were taken. It is the reference rate - the one your broker quotes will differ, and this page explains by how much and why.

Short answer

This converter uses live indicative mid rates for ten currencies plus gold and silver, cached for up to a minute and stamped with the time they were taken, crossing through the US dollar where there is no direct pair. The mid is a reference, not a dealing rate: you buy at the ask, sell at the bid, and many brokers add a conversion fee.

Currency converter for traders

Converted

Indicative mid prices for education, cached for a minute, crossed through the US dollar where there is no direct pair. Your broker deals at bid/ask with a spread and may add a conversion fee, so treat this as the reference rate, not the rate you will get.

About this calculator. The result is an educational estimate. Contract sizes, pip values, spreads, commissions and overnight financing differ by broker and by instrument, and fills can differ from the prices you model. Check your own account's specification before trading.

Mid, bid and ask

The rate above is the mid: halfway between what buyers are bidding and what sellers are asking. Nobody deals at the mid. You buy at the ask and sell at the bid, and the gap between them is the spread. A converter that shows only the mid is fine as a reference and misleading as a quote, which is why the difference is spelled out here.

What traders actually use a converter for

  1. Sizing in an account currency that is not the quote currency. The pip value calculator does that maths directly.
  2. Converting a result from a trade quoted in another currency back to your own.
  3. Sanity-checking a cross, which is computed here through the dollar when there is no direct pair.
  4. Gold and silver, quoted per troy ounce, which trip people up because a "unit" is an ounce rather than a currency.

What this is not

It is not a dealing rate, a quote, or a promise that you can transact at this price. It is an educational reference, and when the feed is stale the page says so instead of pretending the number is current.

Frequently asked questions

What rate does this converter use?

Live indicative mid prices, cached for up to a minute, with the timestamp shown. Crosses without a direct pair are computed through the US dollar.

Why is my broker's rate different?

You deal at the bid or the ask, not the mid, and many brokers add a conversion fee on top. Timing differences matter too, since rates move constantly.

Can I convert gold and silver?

Yes. XAU and XAG are quoted per troy ounce, so one 'unit' is an ounce rather than a currency.

What happens if the feed goes down?

The page says the rates are stale and shows the last good snapshot with its timestamp, rather than presenting an old number as current.
