Prop Firm Copy Trading Rules: Your Own Accounts, and Nobody Else's

Copying your own trades between your own accounts is usually fine. Copying someone else's, or letting someone copy yours, is usually not - and the monitoring that separates the two is better than most traders assume.

Short answer

Copying trades between accounts you personally own is allowed at many firms. Copying another trader's signals, subscribing to a signal service or selling your own is prohibited at most, and is treated as group trading. Firms match ownership through KYC and payment details and flag identical instruments, sizes and timestamps across accounts.

Copy trading, firm by firm

Read live from our own prop-firm compliance data — the same source as the comparison tool. “Verify” means we could not confirm that rule from the firm's own current terms, so we do not publish a number.

About these firm rules. We are independent: not affiliated with, endorsed by or paid by any prop firm, and nothing here ranks or recommends one. Firm rules change often and differ between programs, so the firm's own current terms are the only authority. Anything shown as “Verify” is a rule we could not confirm from those terms, and we publish that rather than a number we guessed.
About this calculator. The result is an educational estimate. Contract sizes, pip values, spreads, commissions and overnight financing differ by broker and by instrument, and fills can differ from the prices you model. Check your own account's specification before trading.

The line firms draw

The reason is risk, not principle. If one signal drives hundreds of accounts, the firm holds one enormous correlated position without knowing it.

How it is detected

Firms match account ownership through KYC and payment details, and look for identical instruments, sizes and near-identical timestamps across accounts. Automation makes those fingerprints cleaner, not harder to see. The practical consequence: an arrangement that "looks like" group trading can be treated as group trading, whatever the intent.

Before you set anything up

  1. Confirm in writing how many accounts you may run and whether copying between them is allowed.
  2. Ask whether copying is permitted in both the evaluation and funded phases.
  3. Check the interaction with EA rules, since a copier is automation.
  4. Remember that each account still has its own daily limit and drawdown floor; copying multiplies the outcome in both directions.

Our table

The table below shows the copy-trading rule we could confirm for each firm, from the same data as the comparison tool, with Verify where we could not confirm it. It ranks nothing and recommends nobody.

Frequently asked questions

Is copy trading allowed at prop firms?

Copying between accounts you personally own is allowed at many firms. Copying another trader's signals, or selling yours, is prohibited at most.

How do firms detect copy trading?

By matching ownership through KYC and payments, and by looking for identical instruments, sizes and timestamps across accounts.

Can I run a signal service from a funded account?

Almost never. Most firms treat it as group trading, and payouts can be withheld from every account involved.

Does a trade copier count as an EA?

Effectively yes - it is automation, so the firm's EA rules apply as well as its copy-trading rules.
