The Nasdaq 100 moves further in points than most traders expect, and the same 'one contract' can mean $20 or $2 a point. Fix the instrument first and the risk maths becomes simple.
The Nasdaq 100 is traded as E-mini futures (NQ, $20 per point, 0.25 tick worth $5), Micro futures (MNQ, $2 per point) or CFDs where your broker sets the point value. The micro is one tenth of the E-mini, so confusing them is a tenfold risk error. Rate expectations and mega-cap tech earnings move it most.

E-mini NQ is $20 per point, Micro MNQ is $2 per point, and CFD point values are set by your broker. Same stop, ten times the money: that is the whole reason to check the instrument first.
