The market is open 24 hours on weekdays, but the hours are not equal. Activity clusters where sessions overlap, and the right hours for you depend on the pair you trade and the strategy you run.
For the major pairs the most active hours are the London-New York overlap, from the US open to the London close, when spreads are usually tightest. For other pairs, activity follows the sessions of the currencies involved: yen pairs in Tokyo, euro and sterling through London. Busiest is not the same as most profitable.

Sessions shown as each city's normal business hours (Sydney 7:00–16:00, Tokyo 9:00–18:00, London 8:00–17:00, New York 8:00–17:00 local), converted to your time zone with daylight-saving handled automatically. Forex trades 24 hours from Sunday evening to Friday evening (New York time); the London–New York overlap is usually the most active window.

Open EURUSD with Session Levels →The London-New York overlap is the busiest stretch of the day for the major pairs: two of the largest centres trading at once, which generally means tighter spreads and more movement. The clock above shows where that window sits for you today.
Liquidity follows the currencies involved. Yen pairs are most active while Tokyo is open, euro and sterling pairs through London, dollar pairs into New York. A pair whose sessions do not overlap is quieter, with wider spreads - and a "dead" hour on one pair can be the best hour on another.

Nobody can tell you an hour that makes trading pay; what a session table can do is tell you when the market you trade is actually awake.
For the majors, the London-New York overlap carries the most volume and usually the tightest spreads. For other pairs, the active window follows the sessions of the currencies involved.
London is busier overall; New York is where US data lands. Which suits you depends on your pair, your strategy and the hours you can actually trade.
Spot forex is closed from Friday evening to Sunday evening New York time. Some venues quote crypto and a few CFDs at the weekend, with wider spreads.
Yes. The UK, Europe and the US change on different dates, so the overlap shifts for a couple of weeks each year.
